The National Gallery of Ireland hold a collection of Turner paintings. At the time they were bequeathed, sunlight was damaging to the delicate watercolours and so a condition of the donation was that they were only allowed to be exhibited in January, the darkest month of the year. To this day, the paintings are only exhibited from 1st-31st January each year. At the darkest time of the year, Turner breathes light in to the depths of the gallery.
